What Is a Bronze Death Date Scroll?
A bronze death date scroll is a small cast bronze plate that carries a name and dates. It is fixed to a bronze memorial plaque after the plaque is already in place. The most common use is a companion plaque for a couple. One person passes first, and the plaque is set with both names but only one full set of dates. Years later, a scroll with the second date of death is added, so the plaque does not need to be replaced.
Scrolls are also used to add a name to a family plaque, to cover a damaged area, or to update an older marker. A scroll is cast and colored to match the plaque, so it reads as part of the original design.
Types of Bronze Date Scrolls
Our bronze scroll collection lists four styles. Each comes in Black, Dark Brown or Light Brown backgrounds to match the plaque.
Classic Scroll
The classic scroll has rolled ends, like a paper scroll. It comes in 4" x 1.22", 6" x 1.83" and 8" x 2.44". The classic scroll is listed from $288.
Flat Scroll
The flat scroll has a plain face with the same three sizes as the classic scroll. It suits modern plaques with simple borders. The flat scroll is listed from $288.
Tri Scroll
The tri scroll is longer and holds more text, in 8", 11" and 14" lengths. It is listed from $417 on the tri scroll page.
ELZ Embossed Fold Scroll
The ELZ scroll is an embossed scroll plaque with folded ends, offered in many fold sizes. It is listed from $584 on the ELZ scroll page.
How Much Does a Bronze Death Date Scroll Cost?
In our catalog, bronze death date scrolls cost from $288 to $584, depending on the style and size. The price you pay is confirmed on your written quote. Cemetery fees for opening a section or for setting the scroll are separate and are set by the cemetery or the installer. Ask the cemetery office what it charges before you order.
How a Scroll Is Matched to an Existing Plaque
Send us a clear daylight photo of the plaque, its size, the text that is already on it, and the text you want to add. We match the font, the background color and the scroll style. You approve a proof before anything is made. If the plaque was made by another company, we can still match it in most cases from a photo.
Who Installs the Scroll?
Many cemeteries set scrolls themselves or have rules on who may work on a marker. Check those rules first. Installation is offered separately through Monument Service Group where coverage is confirmed. Read more in our bronze plaque guide.
